Bellevue Medical Center is dedicated to individually monitoring critical care patients every day by a physician led team of health care professionals.
A partnership with Creighton Medical Associates will make this daily person-to-person contact with critical care patients possible. The physicians participating in this program are full time faculty at Creighton University in the Department of Medicine, Pulmonary-Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Division and are board certified in critical care and pulmonary medicine.
“We are very excited about this unique partnership between Creighton and Bellevue Medical Center’” says Dr. Dan Schuller, Chief, Pulmonary-Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Division at Creighton University. “It shows that as a team, we share a common mission in the community and our commitment to superb patient care” “Over the next few months, we look forward to the implementation of several evidence-based protocols in the ICU that will promote the highest standards for patient safety and continuous quality improvement,” says Schuller.
Critical care physicians will lead daily rounds with a team of social service, clergy, respiratory therapy, occupational & physical therapy, dietary and pharmacy staff as part of a multidisciplinary approach to delivering patient care. These physicians are also available around the clock as a resource for staff and other providers.
Dr. Marlin Stahl, Bellevue Medical Center’s Chief Medical Officer, sees this as a significant advantage over remote monitoring of patients or on-call physicians without a similar program or credentials. “Patients will benefit from daily contact with these critical care physicians, their care team and the collaboration of both with their primary care providers,” says Stahl.
Stahl adds that the intensive care unit itself was designed to create more interaction between the patients, families and their care team. Nursing stations are located outside of each patient room and mobile technology is utilized for charting and administering medications.
The hospital’s ICU also features all private rooms and bathrooms, patient lifts that extend across the room and into the bathroom, and an interactive patient education system incorporated into the flat panel televisions in each patient room. Diagnostic testing, respiratory therapy and emergency services are all located near the unit giving hospital staff quick access to a number of vital services.
“The building’s design, the level of services and the caliber of our medical staff are all key components in creating an exceptional patient experience,” says Martin T. Carmody, CEO of Bellevue Medical Center. “I believe this program emphasizes the open development of our medical staff and our commitment to bringing the metro area’s best physicians and services to the people of Bellevue, Sarpy County and the surrounding area.”
