Hospital Offers Free Sports Clinic to Treat Injured Athletes
Once again this fall, Nebraska Orthopaedic Associates (NOA), together with Bellevue Medical Center, are offering Saturday Sports Clinics. It’s a free clinic offered every Saturday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. through Oct. 22. “Athletes are at risk for injury,” said Marc Hunley, physical therapist in the outpatient clinic. “We want to treat them as soon as possible to minimize the amount of time they may miss from their sport.”
An orthopaedic surgeon from NOA and a hospital physical therapist are on hand to evaluate any athlete that stops by the clinic. “The surgeon will provide a full evaluation at no charge,” said Hunley. “We will be able to determine from the evaluation whether diagnostic tests or further treatment are required.”
If an X-ray is needed, that will be billed through insurance. “We’ll take them down to diagnostics and do it right then,” said Hunley. If needed, the patient can make a follow-up appointment with the physician during their regular office hours.
“We are pleased to be able to offer this clinic to the young people in our community,” said Scott Reynolds, MD, orthopeadic surgeon with NOA. “If an athlete suffers an injury, it’s best to play it safe and get it checked out.”
The clinic is open to all athletes. Attendees can simply check in with ACCESS services at the front desk.
“This is a great service provided by an excellent staff. Athletes receive a top quality evaluation,“ said Hunley.
