Childbirth Education Classes offered at Bellevue Medical Center are designed to help you have fun while learning about your options for labor and delivery, the labor support person’s role, and relaxation techniques!
It is recommended to take these classes when you are at least 32 weeks pregnant. Feel free to register for the class date you would like before that time
Childbirth Education Class
The Childbirth Education Class is a series that will cover everything you need to know about labor and delivery, newborn care and appearance, breastfeeding, a tour of the Maternity Services Unit, and more. Be sure to bring two bed-sized pillows and wear comfortable clothing so you can practice comfort techniques. There are two options available for this class.
- Six-week class: This class is taught Tuesday nights from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. It is recommended for people who prefer hands-on training and thorough coverage of breathing, relaxation and comfort measures. The class is also recommended for anyone who is planning on a “natural” birth or prefers fewer medical interventions and will therefore depend on more coping skills. Additionally it is for those who like discussion with other participants.
- Two consecutive Saturdays class: This option provides the same information as the six-week course, but is condensed into two days. The first Saturday is for childbirth information; the second Saturday is focused on breastfeeding and newborn care. The Saturday class option is an abbreviated class, designed for busy couples. It will cover the same information, but encompasses condensed hands-on training and discussion.
- The classes are taught Saturday mornings: the first from 8:00am to 2:00pm; the second from 8:00am to noon.
Cost for either option for the Childbirth Education Class is $65 for each soon to be mom; the labor support person is free! Military discount is available. Payment by cash or check must be received on the first day of class, prior to the start of the class.
Breastfeeding
The Breastfeeding class is for those expectant mothers who do not wish to complete the entire Birth Your Way series, but need more information and training on breastfeeding, techniques, its importance, and more. The Breastfeeding class is recommended for anyone who is new to breastfeeding, has breastfed before and needs a brush-up course, or who just wants more practice and coaching. A significant other, sibling, friend, or parent to act as a labor support coach is recommended for this course.
- The Breastfeeding class is a one-night class, taught on the third Tuesday of each Childbirth Education Class Six-week series from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
Cost is $25 for each soon to be mom; the labor support person is free! Payment by cash or check must be received on the first day of class, prior to the start of the class. Military discount available
