Pneumonia is a common lung infection caused by bacteria, a virus or fungi. Most healthy people recover from pneumonia in one to three weeks, but pneumonia can be life-threatening. Treatment depends on the cause of your pneumonia, the severity of your symptoms, your age and your overall health.
