Longtime Local Physician Named Chief Medical Officer
An experienced local physician and medical director has joined the executive leadership team at Bellevue Medical Center. Marlin Stahl, MD is the new hospital’s chief medical officer.
“I feel strongly that there needs to be a physician 'voice' between the patient, their caregivers and hospital leadership,” Dr. Stahl said. “This is the key role for a Chief Medical Officer. It’s the person who represents the consciousness of the hospital as it applies to the care and safety of the patients.”
A graduate of the University of Nebraska and the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), Dr. Stahl began practicing in Nebraska in 1979. In the years since, he has been a researcher and assistant professor at UNMC, a private-practice pulmonologist, the chairman of The Nebraska Medical Center’s special care units and the medical director for Rural-Metro Ambulance Service.
In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Stahl is also well known in executive leadership circles. Since 2002, he has been a member of the board of directors for The Nebraska Medical Center and the President of Clarkson Regional Health Services, which has financial oversight of Clarkson College.
“There are few people in the region with the type of experience Dr. Stahl has,” said Marty Carmody, FACHE, CEO of Bellevue Medical Center. “He’s been an integral part of the planning and design of this new hospital and I’m pleased he has joined our leadership team.”
With the changes coming to the American health care system, Dr. Stahl believes the region’s newest hospital will be particularly well-suited to meeting new challenges.
“The environment that exists to deliver quality care depends on having the right people and processes in place,” he said. “We have the opportunity to create a never-ending pathway to match care and teamwork between nurses, physicians, technicians, social services and clergy to achieve a caring and safe environment. “
